Rough sketch for Watres Memorial

(at the end of the last three meetings there has been a brief discussion as to what to do with the $1,300 grant for a memorial of some sort.)

My hat in the ring; Fast doodle of my suggestion for Watres Memorial. Tall in stature yet modest in design, affordable for it's simplicity but fancier and more substantial than a bench. Cement wraparound bench around a planter high enough to protect from deer. Old fashioned stone construction with plaque somewhere. Arthur and I years ago went on car rides and he always wanted to point out the old stone homes left in area. He discussed a monument with me before and wanted a tall sculpture commissioned from an artist as a landmark. But I prefer something living like this which symbolizes more as it could represent a sanctuary of protected plants (as opposed to one artist's vision which is very subjective).

Cultivating Mushrooms at Lacawac

*“Cultivating Mushrooms at Home” *

Lake Wallenpaupack-Lacawac Sanctuary will offer a “Cultivating
Mushrooms at Home” workshop Friday and Saturday, April 23-24.
Participants will learn how to grow, use and identify mushrooms with
master herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore. The workshop begins on Friday
evening with dinner in the historic Watres Lodge followed by a
presentation introducing the agricultural, culinary, medicinal, and
environmental significance of mushrooms. Saturday will be spent
learning different cultivation techniques; harvesting, storage and
preparing a log with spawn to grow shiitake that you will take home to
harvest in a few months. You will also go on a spring mushroom walk.
Nathaniel's work with mushrooms grew from his experiences as a wild
vegetable and herb forager. Nathaniel harvests a wide variety of
edible mushrooms from the wild. On a good mushroom year he eats wild
mushrooms regularly through the season, along with his home-grown
shiitake mushrooms. He also makes medicine from wild mushrooms, such
as from the famed Reishi (Ling Zhi). Nathaniel recently started the
Upper Delaware Mushroom Society, a member-run mushroom club, in order
to promote mycological education in our region.
The cost for the workshop is $120 which includes your lodging and
meals from Friday dinner-lunch on Saturday. The fee for commuters is
$95 which includes the workshop and meals. Registration and payment
must be received by April 13. Send your check payable to Lacawac

I think Saturdays are better than Sundays for us, since we have to travel a bit farther than anyone else. :) Because of some upcoming travels for work, the soonest we could both be there is Saturday, March 27, unless everyone wants to come to Santa Fe for some clearness!
